Year In Review
A letter to our ACSC Family:
It is January, which means we at ACSC are getting prepared for a summer of fun by the pool and a whole lot of swimming lessons. But before we come out with our proposed schedule (pending pandemic restrictions, of course) we thought it might be nice to take a moment to reflect on the past year.
Quick recap:
2020 was supposed to be a big one. 2019 went off without a hitch and ACSC went through a successful transition in ownership (big thank you to Carrie and the Cuneos for all their help!). Fast forward to the beginning of 2020: we launched a new website, created our mascot Otto, and were prepared to continue the legacy of teaching kids to swim that Ann herself started over 60 years ago.
Then March came and we all know what happened. Unfortunately, we ultimately had to cancel the Country Club arm of ACSC for 2020 and postpone lessons until guidance from Marin County Public Health allowed for us to operate. Once allowed, we began providing Socially Distanced Private Lessons. This consisted of an instructor on deck facilitating a lesson through a parent or guardian who was in the pool with their child.
With restrictions strictly forbidding anything that would resemble our normal country club, we decided to use that pool space to host summer swim camps for local swim teams. In the craziness that was 2020 we feel lucky that we were still able to share this beautiful pool with others.
To our members:
Thank you for your patience! Your kindness and understanding through the pandemic are very much appreciated. We couldn’t run the club at any capacity this year, however, we are excited for that to change in the summer of 2021. Our fingers and toes are crossed that some semblance of normalcy will present itself before too long and we can get to spring/summertime lounging at ACSC.
To our lesson patrons:
Thank you for being open minded and willing to try something new! We know our socially distanced lessons this year were not exactly what you expected but all of you adults did a GREAT job this summer! When we initially decided to try socially distanced private lessons we were not sure how it would go. Would the students be too scared? Would adults be too protective? Would the kids be able to pay attention when their adult is in the water with them? It turns out that the kids did great! They picked up their skills really well and overall the Socially Distanced Private Lesson experiment was a success!
To our staff:
You all are rockstars! Our preferred method of teaching is obviously a little more hands on, but you adjusted and communicated instruction to the kids and adults beautifully. We hope you had as much fun as we did this summer and can’t wait to have you back with us when we start up again in spring!
We are planning our 2021’s schedule as we speak, and hope to be able to offer more programming and continue to honor our beautiful pool! We can’t wait to see you all again soon!
